Best Beachbody Workout for Weight Loss Over 40 (2022)

Beachbody workouts for weight loss over 40 are a great way to reach your fitness goals. I’ve been using their home workouts for over 9 years now. The best 2022 workouts at Beachbody for women over 40 include some new workouts as well as some old workouts that can’t be forgotten.

The good news is we can find the best workout for you with few questions answered. With so many fitness programs available at your fingertips, it can be a little overwhelming trying to decide.

Beachbody’s workout routines are among the best way for women over 40 to lose weight, look younger and feel great. Why?

Because we are busy. We like working out at home. We need the best workout in the shortest amount of time.

I’ll talk a little bit later about which ones I believe are among the best Beachbody workouts. With well over a hundred workout programs to choose from, you might want to decide what your fitness goals are before deciding.

As I learned in the beginning of my weight loss journey, women over 40 should include building muscle with the right nutrition plan for an entire body toning for a true lean and more youthful appearance and feeling.

It can be hard to get fit as we get older, but with the right mindset it can be done! To be clear, we all know that to get the best results from any workout program you have to be willing to put in the effort.

If you have the determination and you are willing to put in the effort, you can get great results from any of the workouts that we will be talking about here.

Best Beachbody Workout for Over 40

Regardless of your age or your fitness level, you can find great results with many of these workout programs. Whether you consider yourself to be a Beachbody pro or if you are a Beachbody beginner, there are certain questions you should ask yourself in order to better help you choose the program that is right for you.

The questions that you should be asking yourself include:

  • What type of exercise do you enjoy the most?
  • What do you consider your current fitness level to be?
  • How much time do you have to dedicate to your workout?
  • Do you want to include workout accessories?
  • If you are already familiar with Beachbody, who is your favorite trainer?

If you are wondering what these questions have to do with the workout you choose, here is why:

What Type of Exercise Do You Enjoy the Most?

If you don’t like a particular exercise or workout, chances are you won’t be motivated to do it. Make sure that you choose a program that focuses on exercises that you actually enjoy to avoid early burnout.

There are various types: dancing, bodyweight, yoga, strength training, cardio, high-intensity, low-impact and combinations of everything. All workout programs include a modifier person to follow as needed. This makes a lot of the programs acceptable for any fitness level.

What do you Consider Your Current Fitness Level to Be?

Your fitness level is absolutely an important factor in which program you choose to do. Think about it, if you are a beginner, you are going to want to choose a beginner program.

An expert level program is going to be a bit too much for you to take on. If the workout you are doing is too intense for your current fitness level, you could potentially overwork or injure yourself.

How Much Time do you Have to Dedicate to Your Workout?

If you have a busy schedule and only have 20 minutes to fit a workout in during the day, you probably shouldn’t choose an hour long program. Alternatively, if you have an hour free, you shouldn’t skimp out and choose the shortest program. Your availability should be a factor in your decision making process here.

Do you Want to Include Workout Equipment?

If you don’t have any fitness accessories at home, be sure to avoid workouts that call for tools such as resistance bands, etc. There are plenty of workout programs available, there is no reason to make your workout more difficult.

Who is your Favorite Trainer?

Are you already familiar with Beachbody workouts? Do you have a favorite Beachbody trainer? It’s totally okay if you do! Sometimes people have different chemistry and personalities and that includes people that we see on the screen.

If you find that you already have a particular trainer or trainers (maybe Shaun T. or Joel Freeman?) that is your favorite, it is best that you stick with them. It’s hard to enjoy a workout when it is being run by a trainer that isn’t your favorite.

How to Pick the Best Workout Program for You

To help you choose the best program for your particular situation, be sure and check out all of the details mentioned below. Also be sure to remember that new programs are added often.

As your fitness levels change, so will your needs and interests as it relates to working out. Don’t be afraid to mix it up and look at other programs at the end of your current one.

How to Lose Weight with Beachbody Workouts

Like any other workout or fitness program, there are certain things that you can do that can help you find the most success with Beachbody workouts.

Workout Consistency

I get it, starting a new workout program can be overwhelming and intimidating. It can also be a big change in your life (if you are just starting). To find the most success in your Beachbody workout program, you have to be consistent and stick with it.

Work With Your Coach

Everyone who signs up for a Beachbody program is assigned to a coach. Even if you don’t interact with them, or if you didn’t “sign up” with a specific coach, you still have one. Working with your coach can help you more than you may realize, good Beachbody coaches can make all the difference.

While we are on the topic, did you know that I am a Beachbody coach? If you are new to signing up, you can sign up with me as your coach! If you are already signed up, would you like to switch to me? You can do that too.

Change Eating Habits for Weight Loss

Eating right is an important part of your fitness journey. All of the exercise in the world won’t be much help if you are eating poorly. We have many healthy eating tips and ideas for you right here on this website.

You Must Be Willing to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

If you want to make changes to your body, you need to be willing to step out of your comfort zone. If you don’t challenge yourself and you stick with what is easy, your body won’t change at all.

If you’ve never followed a workout plan or exercised for weight loss before, learning to track your food can be vital.

How Effective are Beachbody Workouts?

If you are a beginner, you may be trying to decide between Beachbody and other workouts. If this sounds like you, not to worry. Here’s a little breakdown of the benefits you can find with Beachbody programs.

They Are Affordable

Gym memberships and fitness classes are great, but they can be very expensive. If you like to stay fit without breaking the bank, Beachbody workouts are a great option. They start at just $8.25 per month, and you can even sign up for a free trial!

Home Workouts

If you like to workout in the privacy of your own home, you are in luck! Since all of the Beachbody workouts can be streamed on demand, you can do them all at home or from anywhere else you may happen to be. Many people have even done these workouts from their hotel room.

Beachbody Offers 10 min – 50+ Minute Workouts

When you are busy, it’s easy to think that you can’t find the time to workout. With Beachbody though, you can find workouts as short as 10 minutes long or as long as 50+ minutes. You can make Beachbody work for just about any amount of time in your schedule.

Beachbody On Demand

In the not so distant past, Beachbody used to be a selection of DVD workouts, but now they can all be accessed online as part of the Beachbody On Demand Workouts digital library. You can stream any of their 1500+ workouts straight to your TV, laptop or smartphone.

The Programs are Well Structured

Each Beachbody program is well structured and organized. Each comes with fitness tools like a calendar, nutrition guide and even fitness tracking sheets.

This sort of structured program makes it much easier to follow and stick with than trying to create your own program with free workout videos on YouTube. It’s well worth the $8.25 per month to have the structure to follow!

A Large Selection of Different Workouts

Do you like high-intensity interval, or HIIT Workouts? Do you prefer to focus on muscle building? Are you more of a fan of yoga? Or maybe you need to be sure and stick with a low impact training. Beachbody on Demand offers a huge selection of workout options for you to choose from.

Some of my favorite Beachbody’s workouts

As mentioned, I have been doing Beachbody for almost 10 years now. It’s best to rotate new workouts after a round or two of one of the programs.

  • Lift 4 – Best of the best. 30 Min, all levels, cardio and strength.
  • Tony Horton P90X and P90X3 – Great, but long and hard on joints.
  • Week of Hard Labor – Great for a boost of muscle.
  • 21 Day Fix – Well rounded and repeats weekly.
  • Piyo Workout – Great low-impact.
  • Chalean Extreme – Fun strength training for women.
  • Barre Blend – Fun for women, especially if you like feeling graceful.
  • Hammer and Chisel with Autumn Calabrese – Longer, but worth it.
  • Brazilian Butt – Great for adding to another program or on its own.

Each program has a workout calendar to follow. One fitness routine may be anywhere from 4 weeks to 8 or 12 weeks long.

Often women tend to shy away from strength workouts for fear of looking too muscular or bulky. The benefits of having nice toned muscles is not only increasing metabolism since muscle burns fat, but it also creates a younger looking body.

What Beachbody Workout Should I do?

Below we have selected what we believe to be the best Beachbody workouts for those over 40. While the workout programs listed below aren’t specific to any age group, and many variables outside of your age should go into your workout program selection, the list below are all great workouts!

Keep in mind that if you start a program and you really don’t like it, you can switch to another since you have full access to the entire program. Plus, Beachbody offers a free 14 day trial so you can get an idea of what program you like before you commit.

As always, be sure and consult with your doctor (specifically if you have any pre-existing injuries or conditions), before starting a new workout program.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get to those great Beachbody programs that we told you about.

PiYo

There are many great Beachbody programs that will work exceptionally well for women over 50, but PiYo happens to be one of our favorites. PiYo is a great option for those that need a lower impact workout, which makes it a great option for all fitness options.

Remember all of those great trainers that we told you about? PiYo was created by super trainer Chalene Johnson. It’s an 8 week long program that was designed to get you fit without any weights, extra equipment or high impact workouts. To quote this super trainer, PiYo will “work every single muscle to stabilize, stretch, and strengthen every inch of your body.” It is a great workout option that will give you great results without the intensity of other programs.

With PiYo, you are given the option to choose between two 60 day workouts (basic and strength). The program is designed so that the first three weeks of the program will get you into shape for the remaining five weeks.

Wondering what to expect with PiYo workouts? Here is a breakdown for you:

Body weight and resistance is the theme of the sweat workout. These full-body workouts are a mix of yoga moves and bodyweight exercises.

This is a fast paced workout that switches between strength training exercises and cardio, designed to burn a lot of calories.

Hardcore on the Floor (30 minute workout)

PiYo Strength

The PiYo Strength workout is an extra intense version of the Basic PiYo program with these two added workouts:

Full Body Blast (30 minutes)

This workout is intense and while it is often compared to the basic PiYo strength interval workout, you can expect it to be harder, faster and more intense.

Required equipment: Strength Slides (or equivalent)

Strong Legs (30 minutes)

Do you want to feel that muscle burn in your legs that tells you that you got a good workout? Then you are going to love this workout! Ouch – in a good way.

Required equipment: Strength Slides (or equivalent)

This program was designed to transform your body without using any weights or high impact workouts. This means that you are putting a lot less strain on the body to get the same results as you would with a more intense, high impact program.

21 Day Fix

The 21 Day Fix workout program is ideal for women over 50. It was designed by trainer Autumn Calabrese to be a good option for beginners or those who are focused on getting back into fitness after a break.

21 Day Fix is designed with more than just exercise in mind. This program focuses on exercise and diet both. Actually, strike that, it’s more about portion control than diet. Both the exercise and portion control function of 21 Day Fix is to help you develop healthier habits that can carry on into other parts of your life.

Wondering what to expect with 21 Day Fix workouts? Here is a breakdown for you of some of the workouts:

Upper Fix (30 minute workout)

The Upper Fix workout is focused on targeted resistance training for your upper body, including your abs, arms, chest, shoulders and back.

Lower Fix (30 minute workout)

This workout is focused on calorie and fat burning and sculpting your lower body.

Cardio Fix (30 minute workout)

This is a great cardio workout that burns fat and calories without the need for any added equipment.

Total Body Cardio Fix (30 minute workout)

This full-body cardio workout will increase your heart rate and burn calories.

Recommended equipment: Weights

Pilates Fix (30 minute workout)

As the name suggests, this workout is pilates based and is great for strengthening your abs and thighs.

Ab Fix (10 minute workout)

This 10 minute workout is designed to work on strengthening your abs and core. This is not a stand alone workout though. The Ab Fix workout works best when it is done one or two times per week in addition to your other 21 Day fix workout.

While PiYo and the 21 Day Fix programs are some of our favorite Beachbody workouts for women over 40, there are other programs that would also work well!

If you are new to fitness or dealing with joint pain, just be sure and look for a workout with a modifier so that you can build up your strength and fitness in a manner which is suitable for your situation.

LIIFT4

This is a great workout program that is designed to burn fat and build muscle. Every exercise has modifiers available to make it work for those that are dealing with joint issues.

Barre Blend

Did you take ballet when you were younger? Did you want to take ballet but never did? Are you familiar with the workout chain Pure Barre? Barre or ballet style workouts are great for toning and lengthening muscles. Think ballet dancer body.

Barre Blend is a mix of cardio, pilates and interval training.

This workout plan uses very light weights, and is a great option for toning and losing weight.

Now you’re ready to get started!
