Collagen for Loose Skin from Weight Loss and Aging

Loose skin from weight loss and aging is something many of us are concerned about. I have heard from so many of you who have worked so hard to lose weight only to be left with loose skin and wrinkles. You feel younger, now you want to make sure to look younger.

Keep in mind I used to be the “zero supplement, no need for them”, girl. Now I am a firm believer in using the natural supplements to replace essential components our bodies need.

I was told about collagen supplements a couple of years ago at a conference. Lucky for me, I had been searching for something to help loose skin and had tried many different products.

Did you know our body slowly stops producing collagen beginning in our mid-20s and by around age 40, stops completely?

What is Collagen?

How does collagen help with loose skin from weight loss and aging?

“Hydrolyzed Collagen is beneficial in strengthening the synovial membrane that holds the synovial fluids between the joints. It also helps repair and maintain cartilage weakened by overuse through impact and stress. Collagen makes up 30% of the total protein in the body and is the main component of connective tissue.” (source)

“Hydrolyzed Collagen is the missing link in supplying amino acids like glycine, proline, and lysine that are required by the body to build connective tissue to regulate cell growth. It will benefit hair, skin tissue, muscle, cartilage, ligaments and blood cell growth. Some doctors are referring to this product as the new anti-aging product of the century.” (source)

Collagen Benefits of Skin and Joints

I had started wearing a knee brace during some of my workouts due to the pain. About 4 weeks after I added collagen to my daily routine, my knee pain stopped completely. Even now, 2 years later, my knee pain only comes back when I have missed a few days of collagen.

Additionally, a few months after, family members began commenting how much younger my face looked.

Two big reasons for me to keep taking the collagen daily.

Those are the benefits I can see…I am confident there are more benefits I am not seeing such as the cell growth, and other internal awesomeness things.

The collagen has certainly changed my life. Without it, I would be wearing a knee brace and most likely have to limit my workouts.

The loose skin from weight loss and aging does take some time to get its elasticity back, but with the collagen supplement, it has the “tools” needed to do so.

My skin in places like my stomach and hips has tightened up considerably in the past 2 years.

For all of those reasons, I will always add the collagen to my routine.

It’s so easy too! I keep the unflavored collagen powder in my pantry and add it to my flavored water once a day. It dissolves with a few shakes and I’m on my way!

  1. In your opinion, do you think taking liquid collagen, powder collagen, or collagen capsules are the best way to incorporate it into your daily life?

    • Hi Jessica,

I have only used the powder version myself. First, I would look at ingredients in the product to ensure it is pure and organic. There should not be any fillers added. Then, it’s what will be the easiest way for you to take it regularly. For me, it is very easy to add a scoop of Vital Proteins into one of my drinks during the day. It dissolves very easily and doesn’t have a taste. Hope that helps!

    • Linda, I can’t specifically say at what extent it will help skin, but I have had people who know me tell me my face looks younger after taking it for a few weeks. Personally, I notice the biggest difference with my knees. Give it a try for a few weeks and let me know! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Hi I am leaving the USA tomorrow morning and going back home to England can you tell me of an equivalent hydrolysed collagen product I can purchase there.
    Many thanks
