Fonda Fights Aging
Jane Fonda, 82, is an Academy Award-winning American actress. Famous for rockin’ gym-wear attire and doing seemingly effortless exercises, she was the aerobics queen of the 1980s.
Despite a hip replacement in 2005, and a knee replacement in 2009, her fitness and health have been maintained. She has battled her share of serious health issues, including bulimia from childhood until her forties, multiple forms of cancer, and she still currently suffers from osteoporosis.
Yet the years of exercise seemed to have paid off as she rocks red carpets today.
Fully disclosing multiple cosmetic surgeries she admits she regrets having work done. She now wishes to grow old gracefully, with a dedication to transparency. (2, 3, 4, 5)

Help Us, Jane Fonda!
Here are some of Fonda’s tips for feeling less crappy and looking more sassy with age:
- Keep working out Jane walks for one hour a day, stretches, and does strength training, but she put emphasis on not overdoing it. ‘The workout when you’re older has to be more functional. You have to be sure not to hurt yourself and I do.’ (7)
- No diets She eats healthy, fresh food, with minimal red meat. Low on carbs, with a lot of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and chicken means she sticks with a Mediterranean-style diet. (7)
- Keep busy Jane recommends staying interested in careers, passions and hobbies, staying, and paying attention to young people. She was recently arrested for the third time at a climate change protest, demonstrating her passion for activism, announced she was inspired by Greta Thunburg. (7, 9)
- Less make-up Her make-up artist has revealed Jane prefers less make-up, so it doesn’t sink into any skin creases. Her top tip is always use skin-plumping serums beforehand. (10)
- Mental health Fonda preaches it’s crucial to seek psychological help or ways of addressing any emotional needs in adulthood. By identifying triggers associated with any trauma, she believes it is beneficial for all. As a child she experienced only one parent being fully present, and suffered abandonment issues from ex-husbands. Some of her traumas were eventually brought up whilst filming. She is grateful she found key to her peace through therapy and self-reflection. (4, 11, 12)
- Don’t Smoke Fonda in the past has stated this as her all-time number one anti-aging tip. (7)

Aging is what happens. There is nothing that can be done about it. We age. The question is not anti-aging because that sets you up for failure and unhappiness. The question is how to age successfully. That’s a huge difference. -Jane Fonda. (7)
