How to Make the Best Banana Frozen Yogurt

  1. Peel and cut bananas into thin slices. Place banana slices in a plastic freezer-safe bag and place in the freezer until frozen.
  2. Add the full fat Greek yogurt, cream cheese, vanilla extract, and frozen banana slices to a powerful blender or food processor and blend until completely smooth. (If necessary, add 2-3 tablespoons of water to the blender to loosen the mixture).
  3. While blending, drizzle in the Stevia until thoroughly combined with other ingredients. Once blended, taste the yogurt mixture and add more sweetener, if desired.
  4. Transfer contents of blender to a freezer safe Ziplock bag or dish and cover tightly. Place in freezer for a minimum of 4 hours or overnight.
  5. To serve, remove the sugar free frozen yogurt from freezer and let sit on counter for 5-10 minutes to soften. Scoop into individual chilled serving dishes and garnish with slices of fresh banana or other favorite toppings.

Store leftover overs in an air-tight container in the freezer for up to a couple of weeks.

Is Greek Yogurt Healthy?

Yogurt is not only a delicious treat, but it’s full of healthy fats, probiotics and other nutrients. Both regular yogurt and Greek yogurt both have health benefits. They can be enjoyed for healthy breakfasts, snacks or used to create some really creamy desserts.

Regular yogurt vs Greek yogurt is the clear winner as far as nutritional information. Greek yogurt has much higher protein than traditional yogurt, almost double the amount, plus it contains much fewer net carbs!

Keep a container of yogurt in your fridge for a last-minute snack but you can also use it for salad dressings, to make sauces, Fruit Dip and healthy marinades.

Why is Soft Frozen Yogurt Too Hard?

Most homemade, no churn frozen yogurt recipes are typically firmer than the soft serve consistency. If you perfect it soft serve style, when you take the bag out of the freezer, mash it around a bit in the bag until it softens up.

If you are making this Sugar Free Frozen Yogurt for adults only, you can also add about a tablespoon of vodka to the the yogurt mixture before freezing. This will prevent it from freezing too firmly.

Best Way to Freeze Bananas?

While you can certainly just slice them up and throw them in a freezer bag, we have a better way that will allow you to pull out just the amount you need.

  1. Peel ripe bananas into the size slices you prefer.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the sliced bananas in a single layer on the sheet pan and place, uncovered, for about an hour.
  3. Once the outer layer appears frozen transfer them to a zip lock bag other freezer safe container.

Tips for the Best No Churn Sugar Free Frozen Yogurt

  • If you don’t have a heavy duty blender, then cut your banana slices into thinner pieces before you freeze them. This makes them a little easier to blend.
  • The secret to success with this recipe is finding the right balance between the tangy Greek yogurt and more mild cream cheese. If you use regular yogurt instead, you may want to use a little more because it is less creamy than Greek varieties.
  • Though you may be tempted to use fat free Greek yogurt to make this frozen yogurt recipe, trust me, you’ll want to use full fat. It really gives this yogurt a much creamier texture.
  • Regular vanilla extract will affect the color of this dish. To prevent this, choose a clear vanilla extract instead. However, be sure to read labels carefully because most clear extracts are imitation.

Optional Toppings and Add-ins:

Peanut butter adds even more creamy texture to this recipe. You can either add it to the mixture while blending, or you can swirl some in as you serve it. Either way, peanut butter and bananas just go hand in hand.

Top your frozen yogurt with fresh strawberries or any of your favorite fresh berries. Because berries have a good bit of water in them, they are best used as a topping verses adding them in and blending them.

Give your frozen yogurt a tropical twist with a little shredded coconut. Add it in when blending to ensure you get some with every bite.

You can never go wrong with chocolate sauce as a topping. We used a chocolate syrup that has no added sugar in several sweet treat recipes, but it is always great over frozen yogurt and ice cream.

Chopped nuts, like pecan, almond and macadamia nuts will give this frozen treat the perfect amount of crunch.

Sugar free chocolate chips sprinkled on top will make this a huge hit with the kids. The little bit of added chocolate flavor goes perfectly with the banana flavor.
